Method
We look together for a way that suits you. My lessons are not limited to one style. We go through musical genres. Classical, pop, jazz, blues, rock, funk, reggae, Latin and world music; it is precisely from the diversity of musical styles that you can develop your technique in different ways. I experienced this many times during my own studies in Rotterdam. As an arranger, I know that a tailor-made guitar score can support the lessons. I therefore work with my own arrangements that fit the lessons. We meet (bi-)weekly on location. In preparation of the lessons I send you video tutorials and I give you 'homework' which allows you to take new steps at your own pace between lessons.
My teaching method is aimed at guitarists who want to take their skills to the next level, through a set of exercises and repertoire and to work on their main weaknesses. The method is personally tailored to each student and his/her specific needs.
By creating the right mindset and practicing routines and specific styles like jazz for instance, the goal is to achieve results efficiently, without losing the pleasure of playing and at the student's pace. My main role as a guitar teacher is then to ensure that the student develops in the right direction, by assisting him/her weekly (recommended for beginners) or bi-weekly and offering the best suited styles of pieces to develop his/her musical experience during this learning journey.
Experience with teaching
Through my studies in Rotterdam, I had the opportunity to learn guitar with teachers from different backgrounds and influences (classical, latin, jazz, flamenco, Turkish, Indian, jazz composition and pop).
This led me to study my instrument and investigate music through multiple angles and perspectives, accumulating complementary knowledge to fully understand and synthesize its functioning.
After achieving a degree in pedagogy, I started to devise exercises and systems of learning through my own method, refining it as time went on. I then started to teach what I had learned and developed, first in private guitar classes then through music schools in Rotterdam.
My priorities as a teacher and through my guitar lessons are development, motivation and interest. It's very important that there is a constructive evolution in the pupil's playing, a constant will to move forward, as well as pieces/songs that inspire him or her.
Methodology
It's important that the pupils learn through an efficient and personal method, but also through their own interest and repertoire (wishlist).
In a teaching lesson the focus is put on :
guitar posture, technique and tone
timing and rhythmic feel
fingerpicking and plectrum pick techniques
strumming and grooves
interpretation
theory and knowledge of music
improvisation
repertoire (on student's wishlist)
