About Alex

I will not claim that playing guitar is easy. In the more than 30 years that I have been playing guitar and the many years that I have been playing as a professional musician, I have learned that two things are important : perseverance and fun. It is precisely these elements that I combine in the way I work. From these elements we will make sure that the fingers of your left hand play the neck of the guitar independently and smoothly, we will develop the strength necessary to hold the barre position on the fretboard and thus play the notes and chords that make the music. We're going to get your left and right hands working in sync together to create music that is magical via (complex) chord changes.

From an early age onwards I've been very interested in music - my grandparents introduced me to classical and jazz and my parents to pop and rock. I therefore decided that music would take a bigger part in my life by starting to learn guitar. When I became a teenager, my interest kept on growing, and I discovered more styles such as hard rock, flamenco and gypsy music. After that intense phase I decided to become a professional guitarist, understanding that music is the language of emotions, beyond any spoken language or convention. It is an inner urge for me to express myself, communicate with others and transmit emotions through music.

I'm a guitarist, arranger and composer, born and raised in Brussels, Belgium. I started with classical guitar when I was 7, then he continued with jazz guitar in 2008 at the Jazz Studio, in Antwerp.

In 2010 I did a Bachelor's degree at Codarts (Rotterdam Conservatory) in World music, with latin music and jazz as my main focus of study. In 2018 I achieved his Master's degree in Jazz Composition at Codarts with Paul van Brugge, my research being about the use of live electronics in the field of jazz composition.

During and after the period of my studies, I continued composing and performing my own pieces and arrangements with several bands and line-ups. In 2019, I released my first album, Opalessence, with the band Childwood.

In 2021 I also followed and achieved an extra course in pedagogy, guitar methodics and didactics at the Amsterdam Conservatory in order to complete my teaching skills.

I have now more ten years' experience in teaching guitar and music theory, and have been working as teacher in several music schools (Rotterdam International School, Rotterdam School of Music, Guitar Academy), giving lessons in the genres of steelstring/folk, pop/rock/blues, and jazz/South American music.
