Acoustic pop and neo soul. Two arrangements for solo guitar of songs by Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. They show how a melody, a bass line and chords can fit together on a single guitar, an excellent ground to work on fingerpicking and groove.
Acoustic jazz and blues. My arrangement of Summertime by George Gershwin, inspired by the versions of Doc Watson, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, and an interpretation of Deep River Blues. This is where we work on harmony, voice leading and improvisation, which I teach in lessons.
Classical and Spanish music. The first movement of La Catedral by Agustín Barrios Mangoré and Canto Ostinato by Simeon ten Holt, arranged for solo guitar. These pieces demand precise control of sound and of the right hand, whether on acoustic guitar or with nylon strings.
Brazilian jazz. Samba em Prelúdio by Baden Powell and a solo over the chord progression of Crystal Bells, with my colleague Bruno Ferreira. An ideal style to develop rhythm, flexibility and listening.
